Beth Guterman, viola

Principal violist of the St. Louis Symphony, Beth Guterman Chu has appeared as a soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician at Carnegie, Alice Tully, Avery Fisher, Wigmore, and Jordan halls among others. During summers, she has performed at the Marlboro Music Festival, Steans Institute at Ravinia, and will be teaching and performing at the Aspen Festival and School for the first time this summer. Another first this summer will be coaching and working with Carnegie Hall’s National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America. In addition to being a member of Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, she performed as guest violist with Trio Cavatina, the Claremont Trio,Boston Artists Ensemble, Boston Chamber Music Society, and Andover Chamber Music. She recorded works of Mozart, Schubert, and Dvorák with other CMS Artists and Menahem Pressler on the Deutsche Grammophon label; she also has chamber music recordings on the Tzadik and Naxos labels. Ms. Chu received her artist diploma from the New England Conservatory and her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from The Juilliard School studying with Kim Kashkashian, Masao Kawasaki, and Misha Amory. She currently lives in St. Louis and Boston with her husband and two sons.
