Celebrating 20 Years
Our festival this August, “Darkness and Light” will take us from the shadowy depths of Mozart’s G Minor String Quintet and Nocturnes by Chopin and Saariaho, to shade and color in a Franco-Chinese program with works by Debussy and Zhou Long, to bold contrast with Bartok and Dvorak. Finally, we’ll journey to great light and joy as we end our season with Mendelssohn’s ebullient String Octet.
In celebration of our twentieth, I am so proud to be welcoming home SBC artists that have made substantial musical contributions to us over the years. Violinists Jennifer Koh, Jennifer Frautschi and Sheryl Staples return, with hornist Eric Ruske, cellists Ed Aaron and Sophie Shao, pianists Benjamin Hochman and Ignat Solzhenitsyn. Artists from the Brentano and Borromeo String quartets will also be here to help us celebrate. And we welcome some very special guests including Erhu master Wang Guowei, tenor Dominic Armstrong, violinist Erin Keefe, pianist Lydia Artymiw and Maestro Osmo Vanska (playing clarinet!).
As we reach this milestone, I reflect on what has made all of this possible: you, the concertgoers who have supported Salt Bay Chamberfest for twenty years! Your love of great chamber music, your open minds and hearts have been the foundation on which this great music has come to life!
